At the upper end of Devils Canyon a small trail leads from the rim down to the
canyon bottom. But already here we had to find our way through the brush.

After a rainy October there's a lot of water in Devils Canyon. Here we still
try to cross the creek with dry feet ... without success, of course.
|
At this point in the canyon the creek is rather narrow, but has a strong
current. Thus only a big step can help ...
|
A view downstream ...
|
Water is rare in Arizona. So you are lucky if you find it in a big amount,
as at these nice waterfalls.
|
These devilish rock formations at the edge of the canyon are probably
responsible for the canyon's name. Just imagine how they would look
like in the moonlight ...
|
A bit downstream the canyon bottom is like a completely different world
compared to the desert around, because of the lush riparian forest and the
sounds of the running water.
|
I had to shot a picture of this tree, where the fall colors of the leaves
make a great contrast to the white bark and the dark blue sky.
This image is also published in a photo book of the
International Library of Photography.

At this creek crossing not only the shoes became wet ...
|
... but for taller people and with the right attitude even deeper water
is not a problem at all.
